Northern Lights Baseball Mission trip 2011 to Dorado, Puerto Rico

THANK YOU again for all your support for our team as we embarked on this adventure! Thank you to all who donated your money, thoughts, and prayers as they were greatly appreciated!  A special thank you to Shirty Something who donated 50 shirts for us to take to the boys at Hogar Forjadores de Esperanza.

Our mission trip consisted of the following:

On Monday, August 8th, all members of the team arrived in Puerto Rico.  Monday was a day spent getting settled, purchasing food and supplies, and just getting ready the our week.

Tuesday – Friday we worked at the home.

  • We helped clean out a storage and classroom building.  We did some weeding, shredded papers, painted and mowed the grass.
  • We assembled a play area at the home with donated equipment.
  • We trained them on how to use the equipment, and gave them basic instruction on healthy living.

Tuesday – Friday we played baseball.

  • We played against 4 Puerto Rican teams.
  • We did a food drive in order to build awareness for Hogar Forjadores de Esperanza during our baseball games.
  • We brought the boys from the home to our games

Saturday was a day of fellowship with the residence of the home.  Our hope is that some of the teams we played against will come along side to love and mentor these kids.  We plan to return again and continue the work we began this past summer.  Thank you all very much!

In Christ,
Gayle and Sam Firpo
